The key to this dish lies in selecting the right ingredients that complement each other without overpowering the natural flavor of the chicken. When I pick ingredients, I look for freshness and simplicity—just like my mom did. Using real butter and fresh garlic makes a big difference in the sauce, while quality chicken tenders ensure tenderness. If you’re short on time or ingredients, I’ve included some substitutions that still keep the dish delicious.
- 1 pound chicken tenders
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (can substitute with gluten-free flour)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup honey (raw or regular works well)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or avocado oil
- Optional: chopped fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your air fryer to 400°F for about 5 minutes to ensure even cooking.
- In a shallow bowl, mix the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Pat the chicken tenders dry with paper towels, then dredge them in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
- Lightly spray or brush the tenders with olive oil to help them crisp up in the air fryer.
- Arrange the tenders in a single layer in the air fryer basket—avoid overcrowding to ensure they cook evenly.
- Cook for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the tenders are golden brown and reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
- While the chicken cooks, melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
- Remove from heat and stir in the honey until well combined.
- Once the tenders are done, toss them gently in the honey butter garlic sauce until fully coated.
- Sprinkle with fresh parsley if desired, and serve immediately.
