The key to this dish lies in selecting the right ingredients — fresh, high-quality salmon makes all the difference. I always choose wild-caught salmon when I can find it because it has a richer flavor and firmer texture that holds up beautifully under the spicy sauce. For the bang bang sauce itself, fresh garlic and ginger add a brightness that balances the creamy mayo base, and I love using a touch of honey to bring in just the right amount of sweetness. If you’re sensitive to spice, feel free to adjust the sriracha or swap it for a milder chili sauce.
- 4 salmon fillets (about 6 oz each), skin on or off based on preference
- 1/3 cup mayonnaise (I use light or avocado mayo for a healthier twist)
- 2 tablespoons sriracha sauce (adjust to taste)
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or avocado oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional garnish: chopped green onions and sesame seeds
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
- Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt and pepper to enhance the natural flavors.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sriracha, honey, grated ginger, minced garlic, and lemon juice until smooth and creamy.
- Brush or spoon half of the bang bang sauce evenly over the salmon fillets, reserving the rest for later.
- Place the salmon on the prepared baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil. Bake for 12-15 minutes, depending on thickness, until the salmon flakes easily with a fork.
- Remove from the oven and spoon the remaining sauce over the top. For a little extra touch, broil for 1-2 minutes to caramelize the sauce—just keep a close eye to avoid burning.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving. Enjoy immediately for the best flavor and texture.
