Ingredients
When I shop for this recipe, I always choose fresh, high-quality ingredients because they truly elevate the final dish. The key is picking tender chicken breasts and fresh mozzarella — nothing processed or pre-shredded if you can help it, because the texture and flavor make all the difference. I also love using whole wheat or multigrain wraps to add a bit of wholesome goodness, but feel free to swap in your favorite wrap style. This is the kind of recipe where a few simple, fresh ingredients come together to create magic.
- 2 large chicken breasts, thinly sliced or pounded flat
- 1 cup shredded fresh mozzarella cheese
- 4 large flour or whole wheat wraps
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 cup marinara or your favorite tomato sauce (optional for dipping)
- Fresh basil leaves or spinach (optional for added freshness)
Substitutions: You can swap mozzarella for provolone or cheddar if you prefer a sharper cheese. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free wraps or large lettuce leaves for a low-carb twist.
Instructions
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) while you prepare the chicken.
- In a bowl, toss the chicken slices with olive oil, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.
- Place the chicken in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the chicken is golden and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F).
- Lay out your wraps on a clean surface. Place a few cooked chicken slices in the center of each wrap.
- Add a generous handful of shredded mozzarella over the chicken, and top with fresh basil or spinach if using.
- Roll the wraps tightly, folding in the sides to secure the filling.
- Return the wraps to the air fryer basket seam side down. Air fry for an additional 3-5 minutes, or until the wrap is crispy and the cheese inside is melted.
- Remove carefully and let cool for a minute before slicing in half. Serve with warm marinara sauce for dipping, if desired.
Tip from my kitchen: Don’t skip the second air frying step — that’s what gives these wraps their irresistible crunch and gooey cheese center.
