The key to this dish lies in selecting the right ingredients that pack flavor without fuss. Over time, I’ve learned that fresh produce and quality chicken really elevate the dish, bringing that homemade magic I remember from my childhood kitchen. I always reach for ripe avocados and crisp lettuce to add texture and creaminess, while the spicy sauce is where the firecracker name truly shines. If you like, you can swap out the chicken for tofu or shrimp to suit your family’s tastes—flexibility is part of the fun!
- 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup hot sauce (adjust to taste)
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 large flour tortillas or whole wheat wraps
- 1 cup shredded lettuce (romaine or iceberg)
- 1 medium avocado, sliced
- 1/2 cup shredded carrots
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions
- Optional: sour cream or Greek yogurt for topping
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together hot sauce, honey, soy sauce, garlic powder, and smoked paprika to create the firecracker sauce.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken slices and cook for about 4-5 minutes until they start to brown.
- Pour the sauce over the chicken, stirring to coat evenly. Let it simmer for another 3-4 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and the sauce thickens slightly.
- Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave for 20 seconds until pliable.
- Assemble each wrap by layering shredded lettuce, cooked chicken with sauce, sliced avocado, shredded carrots, and green onions.
- Add a dollop of sour cream or Greek yogurt if desired, then fold the sides of the tortilla and roll tightly.
- Serve immediately or wrap in foil to keep warm while you finish the rest.
